Ford Transit 2.2 TDCi jerks at low revs - blocked EGR valve

Jerking and poor pull below 2,000 rpm, hesitation when moving off and intermittent limp mode are typical signs of a sticking EGR valve on a Transit 2.2 TDCi. Soot from recirculated exhaust gases jams the valve plate in the open or closed position, especially quickly on vans used for short urban trips. If the valve still moves freely and is merely dirty, cleaning may provide a temporary improvement. A valve with a seized mechanism or failed actuator motor must be replaced completely. After replacement, remember to clear the fault codes and perform the adaptation. If the van has a DPF, check its soot loading as well, because the two faults often occur together.
