Ford Transit sits low at the rear and bounces over bumps - worn leaf springs

A sagging rear end, continued bouncing after a bump, knocks from the rear axle when loaded and a visible difference in ride height from one side to the other are signs of tired leaf springs. The leaves lose their resilience after years of carrying loads, and an individual leaf can break without warning, often first showing as the van leaning to one side. Before replacing the complete spring, check the less expensive parts: the rubber spring pads, spring eye bushes and U-bolts. Worn bushes can produce knocks that sound very similar to a broken leaf. Replace leaf springs in pairs across the axle, selecting the correct version for the vehicle's permitted gross weight, number of leaves and body length.
