Ford Transit sliding door rubs and does not close properly

A sliding door that drops and rubs on the sill in Transit MK6/MK7 has two typical causes, and it is worth diagnosing the right one before buying parts. The first is worn guide rollers: worn roller bearings create play, the door hangs crooked and resists sliding. The second, specific to the Transit, is a rotten sill under the lower rail. Corroded metal bends under the door weight, and no new roller will fix that.

How to tell whether the rollers or sill are at fault?

Open the door halfway and try to lift it. Clear up-and-down play with a sound sill points to the rollers. If the lower rail moves together with the sill metal, or you can see paint bubbles and perforation along the sill, a sill repair panel must be welded in, and the rollers are usually replaced at the same time.
