Movano heater blows cold air due to a heater blend flap fault

If the engine reaches normal temperature but the vents still blow cool air with the temperature set to maximum, the cause may not be the heater matrix or thermostat but the air-mixing flap that directs the airflow. On the Movano, this flap can stick in the outside-air position. The actuator motor can then be heard working, but the flap itself does not move and cold air continually enters the cab regardless of the control setting.

Is the blend flap, actuator or linkage at fault?

A simple listening test provides the answer. While changing the temperature and recirculation settings, listen close to the heater box. A running motor with a stationary flap means that the linkage has broken or come off, or that the drive coupling has cracked, so a new actuator is not required. Silence indicates a failed actuator or no power supply: check the fuse and connector. Before dismantling the mechanism, rule out two cheaper causes that can produce a similar effect: a severely blocked cabin filter and air trapped in the cooling system, which prevents coolant circulating correctly through the heater matrix. Access to the flap requires removal of part of the dashboard or heater box. This is the most labour-intensive part of the repair, so it is worth replacing the cabin filter at the same time.
