Oil pressure fault in Renault Master 2.3 dCi - are the bearing shells worn?

The oil pressure fault message in Renault Master 2.3 dCi must never be ignored. First check the oil pressure sensor and its wiring, because a faulty sensor can trigger a false alarm and even block starting. If the sensor is good and pressure really drops, the cause may be a worn oil pump, a blocked oil pickup strainer or, in the worst case, worn bearing shells. This is a typical result of oil changes being too far apart and driving with oil level too low, especially in heavily loaded RWD versions. Knocking from the bottom of the engine with no oil pressure means the bearing shells must be replaced.
