When should the timing chain be replaced on Renault Master 2.3 dCi?

The 2.3 dCi M9T uses a timing chain, not a belt, so Renault does not give a fixed replacement interval. In practice, around 150,000 km is a sensible reference point. Chain life depends mainly on oil quality and oil change frequency. City use and long oil intervals can stretch the chain after 200,000-250,000 km. A metallic rattle for the first seconds after a cold start is the first warning. Replace the complete kit: chain, tensioner and guides. It is also worth replacing the worn Renault Master timing cover.
