Loose gear lever and gears popping out in Renault Trafic

A loose, rubbery gear lever, difficulty selecting gears, resistance when engaging a gear and gears popping out while driving are typical signs of a worn gear selector in Renault Trafic, Master and Opel Vivaro with PF6/PK6 gearboxes. The cause is worn needle bearings and seals in the gear-change mechanism. Moisture enters through the leak, grease escapes and shift precision disappears. The external selector on the gearbox casing can be repaired cheaply with a repair kit, without removing and stripping the gearbox. If the upper selector shaft passing through the casing has seized, the gearbox must be dismantled, so early play should be repaired immediately before the problem moves inside.
