Where is the cabin filter in a Ford Transit?

The cabin filter location depends on the generation, and there is a small surprise involved. At the very least, it differs from the arrangement used in most cars.

Transit MK7 (2006-2013) - filter in the engine compartment

The filter is not behind the glovebox as it is in passenger cars, but in the engine compartment, inside the air intake duct for the cabin. Importantly, many vehicles did not have a filter fitted at the factory at all. The slot is present but empty, so the cabin draws in unfiltered air. You only need to buy a filter element and slide it into the slot; it is worth measuring the slot before ordering.

On later generations, the pollen filter was moved into the cabin and fitted in the heater housing on the passenger side, with access from the passenger footwell. Replacement takes only a few minutes and is recommended every year or every 15,000-20,000 km. A clogged filter is the most common cause of weak airflow and misted windows.
