Why do my Ford Transit rear doors sag and become difficult to close?

If the rear door has to be lifted as it is closed and can be moved up and down when open, the hinges are worn. On the Transit MK6 and MK7, it is usually the hinge bush in which the pin runs, rather than the pin itself, that wears. An important practical detail is that the hinge cannot be dismantled and rebushed; the complete hinge must be replaced. Fortunately, the job is straightforward. The rear door hinges are bolted on, with three bolts to the body pillar and two to the door, so no cutting or welding is required. Before removing the old hinge, trace its position on the body with a marker. This will save a lengthy door alignment process. Sagging doors should be repaired promptly because a misaligned door damages the latch, seal and sill edge.
