Why does a Renault Trafic have no power?

Loss of power in Renault Trafic is common on 1.9 dCi, 2.0 dCi and 2.5 dCi engines. Start with the cheapest checks:

Blocked fuel filter - the most common and cheapest cause to rule out. A clogged filter restricts fuel flow and the ECU cuts power. Trafic II fuel filter and Trafic III 1.6/2.0 dCi fuel filter are available from Transit Center.
Blocked or faulty EGR valve - soot can jam the valve, especially below 2000-2500 rpm.
Faulty turbocharger - a cracked wastegate housing or worn blades can cause a whistle and poor power.
Faulty MAF sensor - wrong airflow readings make the ECU reduce fuel.
Boost leak or intercooler leak - a loose intercooler pipe lets pressurised air escape and causes a sudden power drop with a whistle.

If the power fades gradually and there are no fault codes, start with the fuel filter.
