Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue - What to Watch Out For?The Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue is a modern, efficient and comfortable van engine used in many Transit and Transit Custom models. These vans are still a great choice for work: they drive well, offer good comfort and remain a true “backbone of Britain” for tradesmen, couriers and fleets. However, the 2.0 EcoBlue engine requires more careful servicing than older Transit engines. Which Ford Transits Have the Wet Belt?If you are wondering what Ford Transit has a wet belt or which Ford Transits have wet belts, the answer is mainly the models fitted with the 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine. This engine appeared in Ford Transit and Transit Custom models from around 2016 onward. It can be found in later Transit MK8 models, Ford Transit MK9, late Transit Custom MK1 and Transit Custom MK2. ![]() 1. Replace the Wet Timing Belt EarlierThe 2.0 EcoBlue engine uses a wet timing belt, also known as a belt-in-oil system. In theory, this design reduces friction and noise. In practice, the belt works inside the engine oil, so poor oil quality, long service intervals or incorrect oil can accelerate belt wear. As the belt ages, small rubber particles can contaminate the oil system and increase the risk of serious engine damage. For working vans, we recommend replacing the complete timing system every 80,000 km or even earlier. Preventive timing belt replacement is much cheaper than repairing a damaged EcoBlue engine. 2. Change the Engine Oil Every 10,000 kmRegular oil changes are the most important service rule for a Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue. Although official service intervals can be longer, delivery vans often drive short routes, idle in traffic, carry heavy loads and work in stop-start conditions. For this reason, we recommend changing the oil every 10,000 km or once a year. In heavily used vans, 10,000 km should be treated as the safer interval. 0W30 Oil for Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue
3. Pay Attention to the InjectorsThe injection system is another area that deserves attention in the Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue. Worn or faulty injectors can cause rough running, diesel knock, difficult starting, smoke, higher fuel consumption and engine warning lights. Ignoring injector problems can also affect the DPF, turbocharger and overall engine condition. If the van starts to run unevenly, produces smoke or shows injector-related fault codes, proper diagnosis should be carried out before further use. In many cases, replacing a faulty injector early can prevent more expensive engine and emissions-system repairs. Injector for Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue
Should I Buy a Ford Transit with a Wet Belt?Yes, but only if you understand the service requirements. A Ford Transit or Transit Custom with the 2.0 EcoBlue engine can still be a very good van: comfortable, practical, economical and pleasant to drive. It is still a Ford Transit, and for many businesses it remains one of the best vans on the road. The key is maintenance. A well-serviced 2.0 EcoBlue can be a strong working van. A neglected one can become expensive very quickly. If you own one, treat oil changes and wet belt replacement as preventive maintenance, not as optional repairs. |
