Legacy of Ford Transit Custom

When the Ford Transit Custom launched in 2012, it marked a turning point in Ford’s commercial strategy. Designed to sit between the smaller Transit Connect and the full-size Transit, it brought a new level of refinement to the mid-size van segment. Developed at Ford’s Dunton Technical Centre in the UK and produced in Turkey, the Custom was tailored to European roads and urban businesses. Its compact size, solid payload capacity, and car-like dynamics helped it dominate LCV sales charts—especially in the UK, where it became a consistent bestseller.

Versatility That Redefined the Segment

More than just a workhorse, the Transit Custom offered smart innovations rarely seen in its class—from advanced driver assistance systems to modular interior layouts. Its sharp, kinetic design and expanding trim levels appealed to a wide range of customers, from electricians and delivery services to campervan builders and passenger shuttle providers. The model’s success laid a strong foundation for future updates and, eventually, a second generation. Today, the Transit Custom remains one of the most trusted and widely recognized vans in Europe’s commercial vehicle landscape.
