Preparation of the second generation of the Renault Master model began in 1987, however, due to the very high design costs and the unrelenting position of Renault Master I, work on the new model was discontinued. Design work was resumed later in 1989 in cooperation with the DAF brand, unfortunately the DAF brand was on the verge of bankruptcy and the project was suspended again in a vacuum. In 1996, however, there was an investor who was able to help Renault finish the project - General Motors. The first fruit of their cooperation was Renault Traffic and Vauxhall Arena / Opel Movano. The next model was the second generation Renault Master.
Renault Master of the second generation was available in several body variants: van, station wagon, built-in platform, frame with single cab or frame with double cab, brigade version, dump trucks. Thanks to such a wide range of versions to choose from, customers could adapt the car perfectly to their needs. Renault Master II appeared in three versions of length L1, L2 and L3, as well as in three versions of height: H1, H2, H3. Individual versions were characterized by the following wheelbases: L1 - 3078 mm, L2 - 3578 mm, L3 - 4078 mm. Renault Master also modernized its front in 2003, giving it a more modern look. The headlights, bumper, bonnet and front grille were changed, among others, the power units and suspension system were improved.
The engines offered with the second generation Renault Master were exclusively diesel engines with the following capacities: 1.9 dTi, 1.9 dCi, 2.2 dCi, 2.5 D, 2.8 dTi, 2.5 dCi, 3.0 dCi. They differed mainly in powers. Customers of Renault Master II could choose engines with a power of 80 to 145 hp mechanical in the most powerful 2.5 dCi engine.
