Volkswagen Crafter II - end of collaboration with Mercedes
In mid-2016, an official announcement was made regarding the end of the cooperation between Volkswagen and Mercedes, and thus the end of production of the first generation Volkswagen Crafter. All Crafter II production has been transferred to a new factory in Poland with an estimated capacity of 85,000 vehicles per year. Production took off on 24 October 2016. While the VW Crafter I had stylistic references to the LT model, the Crafter II is a completely new design with the factory name Type SY/SZ and contemporary styling referring to the Transporter T5. The distinctive vertical lamps have been replaced by narrow horizontal headlights. In April 2017 VW entered into a partnership with MAN under which a twin van model, the MAN TGE, was started. The crowning achievement of the innovative solutions and changes was the title of Delivery Van of the Year 2017. The vehicles were fitted with a 2.0 TDI diesel engine, also known as EA 288Nutz, from the factory. The VW Crafter II has an extensive range of optional equipment designed to improve safety.
